Co.Lab Hair Studio
Kate and Ross worked together at a commission salon, later moving to separate states to grow their skills; Kate moved to Ann Arbor and Ross moved to L.A.. When the time was right, they joined together to create something beautiful on Short North Street in Columbus, Ohio.
Co-owners of Co.Lab salon, Kate and Ross wanted to create a collaborative boutique salon that would strive to uphold long-standing stylists who would grow with them. Their aesthetic is urban, chic, and simple, because after all, it is all about the hair! Their name was created to be open to interpretation; it can mean whatever you want it to mean!
Creating something unique and their own, Kate and Ross wanted it to be a space for their stylists. When they rebranded and moved their space downtown, every single stylist chose to follow them on their journey. They wanted to get away from the set rules of a corporate salon and create a salon where stylists can be independent. They are protective over who they hire because they are looking for a long-term commitment. Monthly team meetings are a great way for them to do a “vibe check” and help their stylists reach their goals both in and out of the salon. Their stylists are mastersmof their craft by diving deep into theirmspecialties. For example, they are not just blonding, but they take it one step further by being balayage, foil, and platinum card masters.
Co.Lab carries Davines because it is sustainable and natural. Kate told us that the second she tried Oi Milk, she knew it was the brand for them!
Advice to younger self:
Kate: Anything can happen.
Ross: Trust your gut always.
