THE 🌎 IS OUR BESTIE ♻️
Amika is a friend to all but first and foremost, to the planet. Deeply committed to environmental sustainability at every step of the process, from using reusable and recyclable packaging to forming eco-friendly partnerships and receiving industry-recognized certifications and accolades
Packaging:
In 2022 Amika officially re-materialized their bottles from virgin plastic to post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics. PCR plastic is a material produced from other discarded plastics such as bottles, trays, and bags, that are then melted down into pellets and used to create better sustainable packaging for new products. These PCR plastics save as much as 65% of the energy used to produce virgin plastic, lower emissions, and reduce a substantial amount of landfill and ocean waste. Here are some of Amika's current PCR percentages from their 2024 corporate social responsibility + sustainability report:
Bottles: 90% pcr
Tubes: 50% pcr
Masks: 50% pcr
To further Amika’s commitment to packaging with a purpose, in 2022 they also introduced refill pouches for their best-selling shampoos and conditioners, and in 2023 they expanded to include their forever friend refillable bottles. These refillable pouch options lower carbon emissions by up to 98.4%! Not to mention 1 year's use of their forever friend reusable bottles reduces your environmental impact by 69% compared to their standard PCR bottles.
